Proper storage conditions are crucial for preserving the quality of olive oil. Olive oil is easily affected by light, air, and temperature changes. Therefore, it is recommended to store it in cool, dark, and airtight glass bottles. Olive oil exposed to direct sunlight oxidizes quickly and loses its quality.
The type of packaging used for storing olive oil is also important. Dark-colored glass bottles minimize the oil's exposure to light, while metal containers prevent air from entering. Plastic bottles, however, can decrease the quality of the oil over time. Additionally, the temperature of the environment where the olive oil is stored should be between 18-22°C. Extremely hot or cold environments can negatively affect the flavor profile of the oil.
The freshness and quality of olive oil can be preserved for a longer period by paying attention to storage conditions. Consumers should aim to consume olive oil within a year, as oxidation and acidity increase over time. The flavor profile of fresh olive oil is best preserved with its natural fruity aromas and slight bitterness. Therefore, storing olive oil under the right conditions is key to achieving the best results both in flavor and health.
